Winter means using more energy and it follows that we spend more money. So, how can we be energy efficient and not spend more than we are supposed to? Jim Corbett of the energy division shares some advice on how to do exactly just that.
- Dress appropriately. In winter, it is obviously cold so you need to wear warmer clothes. Summer clothes could be taken out of the attic in a couple of months.
- Make sure that your house is properly insulated. Heat stays inside the house much longer if it is insulated. This could save you money as you do not have to turn up the heater.
- When buying a heater, ask yourself what the purpose is. Small heating systems can only be of use for one or two persons. Large areas need a bigger heating system.
- What type of heater do you want? Gas heating and reverse cycle heating systems are the most efficient – far more so than electric oil heaters.
Corbett stresses that safety is important. Installation and maintenance should be done by a professional; meaning someone who is licensed.
