Our kitchen spaces have already undergone a few subtle (and distinct) transformations over the last decade. Paying due reverence to survey results; they are the most loved area of our homes. Present is always a great time to live in but future is a great place my dear friends. We do so much daydreaming about future.
I quite liked a write-up which talked about how Sydney would look in the year 2050. In my recess hours I often imagine how kitchens would look like in the year 2063, some 50 years from now.
Managed by 3D technology
As a first, I can’t see my kitchens being aloof from 3D technology. In fact, I envision kitchens being fully 3D-centric; gathering data with its help to maintain real-time analytics.
Our kitchens will use this technology to find out the nutritional requirements of individuals, their permissible calorie intake and their expected allergens (the ones even the residents don’t know a thing about).
A 3D scanner would come handy for this job. It will take the scanned version of our palms and send recipes to cooks, keeping in mind the dietary obligations.
Telekinesis…anyone?
I am not too keen a follower of Telekinesis. This being said, I cannot but fancy a centrally placed “living mind” in kitchen that makes saucers, pots and pans fly by the sheer dint of its mental powers. Wishful thinking really!
Self-sustainable units
There is a consensus amongst all those bent towards such futuristic daydreaming that our kitchens in the future will be self-sustainable.. We will grow our own crops and even our choicest edible fishes will grow in our own kitchens. I will touch on this in the next paragraph too.
Steam generating countertops
Think about kitchen countertops (in quartz and granite) with hollow spaces. These will allow steam to permeate through them and thus aid in cooking. Set to a desired temperature, much like the thermostats of today, they will automatically switch off once the optimum temperature is reached and food is completely cooked.
Having done its job, the steam will come down a state and in its liquid form, cater to the growth requirement of fishes and seaweeds.
Countless possibilities
I mean all I am trying to say is that there are countless possibilities for kitchen 2063. We know how open floor plans have made the idea of moving walls so much possible. Also, if we can have living walls today, we can have those wonderful hydroponic-irrigation based vegetables and fruits growing vertically on our walls too.
Combine the two ideas now- Won’t moving walls ensure best conditions of sunlight for the home-grown vegetables? Ah! Future is really a great place.
Do you foresee any specific inclusions in your vision of kitchens of 2063?
