Kitchens have come a long way from being only cooking spaces. Today, our lives revolve around the kitchen island. We cook, indulge in friendly gossips, spend quiet time with loved ones and even dine here. Not to forget that mothers use the kitchen island as an area for their children to sit with their homework.
A blend of aesthetic and functional
Such multifaceted area needs quality revamp. Our kitchen space needs to be in sync with our lifestyle and there is just so much we can do for it. A mix of functional and aesthetic, a mix of structural and cosmetic; yes, this may be the way to go ahead for our kitchen renovation.
Kitchen cooktops
All said, kitchen space was and is primarily a space for cooking. We don’t cook in our bathrooms or living area, after all. So, ideally the reno hunt should begin with the cooktop. Single burners, double burners, induction, glass, and just so much more; you will be spoilt for choices.
Kitchen countertops
The story is pretty much similar for countertops. There is a wide range of materials and style to choose from. It is nice to see that not only state-of-art countertops in materials like quartz are exploding on us but we are also going eco-friendly with wooden countertops. I think wood gets pretty high point, both aesthetically and in terms of wise usage of recycled, environment-friendly material. Today, you can pamper your lifestyle by building countertops that run till the gourmet area.
Kitchen cabinetry
Kitchen cabinetry has evolved quite a bit. An interesting trend has been the emergence of drawers which have more or less substituted cupboards. The cupboards, when they are there, are playing with the idea of ‘door-less’. Talking of drawers, not only are they flexible, they are also very ergonomic and settle down to the postural needs of our body. This way, we do not end up bending and moving ourselves in a wrong way over the long run.
LED lighting fixtures
No article on kitchen revamp can be complete without talking about lighting fixtures. With the beautiful introduction of LED lights, you can play with mood light (read Philips Hue), chandeliers, recessed/can lights and a host of done-from-the-ground-up and retrofit variants.
