When Christmas is round the bend, people already begin to map in their minds the new home design trends of the coming year. The prospect this time is just as salivating.
More efficient use of cramped space
With space getting ever so cramped, the one definite change looking up to 2015 will be better use of apartment space and compartmentalisation. Open floor plans will keep morphing traditional dining spaces and kitchens. Layouts will become more clever with time and 2015 will be just the kind of start we have needed for long. Storage, needs being said, will become a top priority thing.
Sourcing one’s own land
Sourcing one’s own land will become one of the busier trends of housing design as it will allow buyers to enjoy a lot of upfront savings and avoid repayment hassles. The equation between buyers and contract builders will be tested and if deals are done transparently enough, a lot many relations will be forged in what promises to be a construction industry-oriented 2015.
Smaller lot sizes
Lot sizes will become increasingly smaller. In areas where 600 was the minimum threshold, 450 square metres will do just as fine. Homes will also increasingly bend in their principles towards multi-generational living. Of course, it does not need to be mentioned that most of the homes from here on will have to pass two tests.
Renovation-friendly, energy-efficient homes
First is the test of renovation-friendliness and second will be the energy-efficiency test. The latter will be talked about very strongly in meets of designers; what with energy crisis staring at us.
Alternative to brick
Keeping insulation quality what it is, builders may begin to look at alternatives to brick in 2015; something that works like a brick veneer but is different in texture.
I quite like the fact that apartments, as well as detached dwellings, are seeing a rise in approval rates. If the rejuvenated construction industry finds adequate help from labour industry (skilled workforce migration might help), we may be looking at decent times ahead.
