The French Parliament has approved a ground breaking law that requires all new commercial buildings in France to cover their rooftops in plants or solar panels, according to an article on Outdoor Design Source.
Initially, environmental groups wanted full green rooftops covering all new buildings, but a compromise was reached, with the new law eventually mandating that businesses either fully or partially cover part of the roof in plant life or install solar panels on the roof.
Among the many benefits of green rooftops include insulating buildings, absorb rainwater, and offer valuable habitat for wildlife.
With this new law, the urban landscape of French cities will be transformed. Other countries may also be inspired to implement similar laws.
